Bringing Compassion to the Practice of Law

As a lawyer who represents criminal defendants and injured people in Northern Virginia, I believe that I have an innate ability to relate well to and understand the concerns of a broad spectrum of society. That might just be who I am and my outgoing personality, but it probably is also a result of my own background and life experiences.

I am a first-generation American. My father came to the United States from Hungary on a full scholarship to Wesleyan University in Connecticut. He arrived in this country with all of his worldly possessions packed in a crate. My mother is Peruvian and also came to this country as a young adult. My family's achievements have come through hard work and a vigorous pursuit of the educational opportunities that America has to offer.

Many others are not as fortunate. As a lawyer, I am uncomfortable with some of the intolerance I see in our post-9/11 world. I have unfortunately seen people in courtrooms who are treated differently on the basis of their skin color. I have seen judges ask "Are you legal?" before the defendant even has an opportunity to give his name. This is not right and as your lawyer I will ensure that you are treated fairly.

A Reputation for Winning Cases

Early in my career, I developed a reputation for being able to win difficult cases. Juries can see that I am earnest  and sincere, judges respect my preparedness and knowledge of the law, and my opposing counsel knows that they are dealing with a zealous advocate. My office is across from the Loudoun County courthouse in Leesburg. I am in court every day.

Today, my practice has expanded to include two other attorneys. Together we are committed to working diligently and efficiently to achieve our client's goals. Our team approach improves the effectiveness of our legal services, providing more support for each and every case we handle.

Outside of my law practice, I have tried to be a consensus-builder on projects such as the Indigent Defense Task Force and the Indigent Defense Commission. I believe that people need to give back to their community and do more than focus on money. I am a past president of the Loudoun County Bar Association and the Hispanic Bar Association of Virginia and work on several bar committees to help improve the legal services we provide our less fortunate. I try to bring a great deal of compassion to the work I do. Because of my background, I feel a kinship with people who have led tough lives and have little material wealth, as well as those who have achieved material comfort and security in life.

My idea of relaxing is to kayak class 4 whitewater and ski down double black diamond slopes where my mind can focus on nothing but what is in front of me. I do not just handle stress well, I actually thrive under it. That is one of the reasons I was drawn to trial work.

I am also a family man who has been happily married for 17 years and am blessed with two wonderful children, a boy and a girl.
